July 4th, 2004 by Andrew
Well, it’s the 4th of July. Have a happy day.
I saw the Westfield fireworks yesterday, as well as the Springfield Symphony Orchestra and Chorus. I have to say, I was disappointed in the fact that they played a “cheap” version of the “1812 Overture”. It started about 3/4 of the way into the song, at the part where it gets faster. Anyway, they had the chorus there, and it would have been awesome if they were to do the full arrangement with the choral introduction. I guess they didn’t want to bore all the normal people.
The orchestra also played “Adagio for Strings”, which you may or may not know, is a song played many times throughout the movie “Platoon”. It was awesome to hear a live orchestra play it opposed to hearing a recording.
The fireworks were decent, and the finale was very awesome. It went on and on, then stopped, and everyone thought it was over, then they brought out the finale to the finale. It was even better.
Then there was food, ice cream, and a “basket” at Friendly’s. Good times had by all.
That’s it for now, stay tuned for more updates on what’s happening.
